Antioxidant-Rich Super Nut Butters

Antioxidants are substances that fight oxidation and prevent or slow cell damage in our body protecting us from disease, keeping us feeling good and looking young. They are found in natural foods and include some vitamins such as vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin A (beta-carotenes); minerals such as selenium and zinc and phytonutrients such as flavonoids & polyphenols which are various plant compounds that have antioxidant activity.

We chose the following antioxidant-rich ingredients to combine into delicious healthy nut butters:

Pecans:

Pecans are one of the most antioxidant-rich nuts! They contain ellagic acid, vitamin E and carotenoids that work synergistically to remove free radicals, thus protecting the body from heart diseases, cancers, Alzheimer’s and infections. Not only do they contain antioxidants but some studies suggest they may also have an effect in helping raise antioxidant levels in the blood.

Almonds:

Almonds are an excellent source of vitamin E which is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from damage and promotes healthy skin and hair. Plus, ounce for ounce, almonds are one of the most nutrient-dense nuts on earth providing many healthy nutrients.

Goji berries:

These tiny orange-red color berries are packed with nutrition. They are an excellent source of vitamin C which is a natural antioxidant, known for improving immunity, helping protect against colds, the flu, and potentially cancer, skin and eye problems. Also an excellent source of vitamin A, another powerful antioxidant with many important functions as well as a concentrated source of many other vitamins and minerals and antioxidants such as flavonoids. They are the perfect addition to boost nutrition and especially antioxidant activity.

Cacao:

Raw cacao powder has more than 300 phytochemicals and nearly four times the antioxidant power of regular dark chocolate. Research studies suggest that these chemical compounds, by virtue of their antioxidant properties, work against cancers, inflammation, aging, and viral infections.

Dried apricots:

Dried apricots provide a load of vitamin A – a powerful antioxidant that helps strengthen the immune system against infection. It is especially important to maintain the integrity of skin and mucosa keeping skin and tissues in the mouth, stomach, intestines and respiratory system healthy as well as promoting good vision.

Freeze–dried blueberries:

Blueberries contain some of the highest antioxidant levels among all commonly consumed fruits and vegetables. They especially contain a type called anthocyanins, which have been shown to reduce risk factors for heart disease, lowering LDL cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Freeze-dried blueberries may be one of the best ways to preserve the nutrients of the fresh fruit.

 INGREDIENTS

Antioxidant-rich nut butter combo 1

  • 1 cup (110g) pecans
  • ¼ cup (34g) brazil nuts
  • ¾ cup (112g) almonds
  • 12 tablespoons (120g) goji berries

Antioxidant-rich nut butter combo 2

  • 1 cup (110g) pecans
  • ¼ cup (34g) brazil nuts
  • ¾ cup (112g) almonds
  • 12 tablespoons (120g) goji berries
  • 3 tablespoons (16g) of cacao powder

Antioxidant-rich nut butter combo 3

  • 1 cup (110g) pecans
  • ¼ cup (34g) brazil nuts
  • ¾ cup (112g) almonds
  • ½ cup freeze-dried blueberries
  • 12 pieces (84g) of dried apricots

Antioxidant-rich nut butter combo 4

  • 1 cup (110g) pecans
  • ¼ cup (34g) brazil nuts
  • ¾ cup (112g) almonds
  • ½ cup freeze-dried blueberries
  • 12 pieces (84g) of dried apricots
  • 3 tablespoons (16g) of cacao powder


INSTRUCTIONS

  • Place all ingredients in the NutraMilk container.
  • Press Butter cycle, set for 10 minutes.
  • Press Start.
  • Open the container lid.
  • If necessary, set for an additional 1-2 minutes for a creamier butter.
